About this item
The cult classic turned cultural phenomenon, DEVO’s Freedom of Choice returns in KiTalbum form. Originally released on May 16, 1980, Freedom of Choice marked DEVO’s mainstream breakthrough and cultural inflection point. With the explosive success of their single “Whip It,” the band brought their signature fusion of irony, technology, and subversive commentary to the masses, catapulting to No. 22 on the Billboard 200 and achieving Platinum certification in the U.S. Driven by nervy synths, robotic rhythms, and a sharp political undercurrent, Freedom of Choice solidified DEVO as pioneers of the New Wave era. Tracks like “Girl U Want,” “Gates of Steel,” and the title song, captured a world teetering between conformity and chaos. Now, this landmark album is reborn as a KiTalbum, a collectible physical release paired with a full digital experience including two additional versions of “Whip It” by contemporary artists Scowl and Teen Mortgage! Available via the KiTplayer app (iOS & Android). The KiTalbum is a collectible keepsake box that includes a pocket-sized KiT device, which unlocks a complete digital album experience on your phone or tablet. Each one offers lossless audio, high-quality video, photos, and more, all in a format you can see, hear, and hold.
